Imam Baildi Performs at Lafayette's Festival International de Louisiane
Popular Greek band Imam Baildi performed in Louisiana over the weekend, at Lafayette's Festival International de Louisiane.
Entertaining at the venue's central stage, the musicians described one of their traditional songs as, "... it's like you're at a Greek wedding". The style of the Hellenic group's music is an unconventional instrumental mixture of a saxophone, electric guitar, drums and a lute. The tunes are an eclectic infusion from the 40s, 50s 60s, with a modern spin that encourages listeners to dance.
Imam Baildi is made up of two brothers Lysandros and Orestis Falireas and a band that is best described as electro swing meets bouzouki, hip hop meshed with traditional Greek and big band melodies, and authentic Greek-Balkan brass combined with MC's and Cuban rhythms. The group's self-titled first album was met with global acclaims in 2007, leading to their second album, that climbed to number five on the European World Music Charts in 2011.
