  • Written by

Sunday evening, the Λ-Sat satellite created by Greek scientists was launched from NASA's Wallops Flight Facility in Virginia, according to reports.

Scientist Periklis Papadopoulos spearheaded its development in Silicon Valley, CA. Dr. Papadopoulos is an Aerospace Engineer professor at California's University of San Jose.

According to NASA and reported by ANA-MPA, the satellite is traveling with the Antares rocket and carries the Cygnus spacecraft, that is transporting material to the International Space Station. Cygnus is predicted to reach ISS on July 16th.

Originally set to launch last Friday, the satellite took off Sunday due to conflicting weather. NASA has stated that its flight has been running accordingly.

The goal of its travels are to analyze cosmic radiation impact on graphenium during low earth orbit circumstances, along with securing Greek export vessels from hijackings. Dr. Papadopoulos stated to media that the satellite's cost was about $100,000 dollars.
