Cypriot Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides Criticizes North
Cypriot Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides criticized Turkish-Cypriot delegates and the Turkish capital, for its absence of reunification discussion advancements and eluded that their main goal is to enhance the Northern territory.
The Foreign Minister spoke to the nation's state RIK broadcaster and stated of his government, "[The government] only has one plan: to end the occupation and reunify Cyprus", according to Kathimerini.
Kasoulides added, "Those who claimed to have assurances of a good will gesture from [Turkish President Recep] Tayyip Erdogan should ask Ankara to clarify whether it wants a solution".
The UN's objective of finding a just solution for both sides was threatened when Turkey's new President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan contended that the only answer is for the island to remain divided.
The UN Secretary General's Envoy on Cyprus Espen Barth Eide is scheduled to conduct independent meetings with Greek-Cypriots and Turkish-Cypriots today, as he is currently holding his initial discussions with the island's delegates.
