U.S. Approves Cypriot EEZ Development
United States State Department Spokeswomen Jen Psaki has stated that the nation acknowledges Cyprus' resource development, in its exclusive economic zone.
Psaki voiced, "We recognize the right of the Republic of Cyprus to develop its resources within its exclusive economic zone. We continue to believe that the natural gas and oil reserves of the island, as well as all its resources, must be fairly shared between the two communities in the framework of a comprehensive settlement", according to Parikiaki.
The U.S. Spokeswomen added that it is vital to refrain from efforts that have the possibility to enlarge tensions between the two territories. She reiterated the U.S.'s support concerning reunification of the island, led by the United Nations, as a bi-zonal and bi-communal entity.
ENI/KOGAS has been authorized to explore in the nation's EEZ Blocks 2, 3 and 9. It has already finalized two seismic analyses and is schedule to drill 6 wells over the next year-and-a-half.
