Agia Napa Marina Plan Secures Egyptian Investor

  • Written by

The Cypriot government has just confirmed that an Egyptian investor will be participating in a marina plan, located in the Agia Napa-Agia Thekla region of the nation.

The activity was announced by Cypriot Tourism Minister Yiorgos Lakkotrypis, after President Nicos Anastasiades met with Egyptian investor Naguib Sawiris. While talking to media, Lakkotrypis stated that the Egyptian financier has finalized an agreement with the involved parties, who have prepared the marina project.

The Cypriot Tourism Minister commented that this endeavor is one of the most expensive investments on the island, and is priced at 220 million euros. It will establish 800 job positions during creation, and 200 more when it is complete. The marina project is scheduled to start in the middle of the year, after it gains required permits.

Sawiris stated, "The people are nice, the weather is nice, the country is beautiful, so it has all the ingredients for a successful tourist project. Our intention with this project is to bring Agia Napa back into the map of tourism because the project will facilitate all the yachts to have a place to dock". He added that Cyprus was selected because his enterprise believes in the nation and it is only less than an hour flight from Cairo.

The Egyptian businessman further commented, "We are looking at the development that happened in Mykonos. Even Mykonos does not have a good marina like the one we want to build here". Of his meeting with the Cypriot President, he claimed, "We trust his policies and we see how he encourages investments and we are very lucky to have the partners that we have here".
