Trapped Cypriot Cat Travels 2,200 Miles In Shipping Crate

  • Written by

A Cypriot cat remarkably survived a three-week and 2,200 mile trek from the island to the UK, after it was trapped in a shipping unit.

The feline was named Miss Pickford after the company whose container she was identified in. It has been reported that the furry four-year-old lived through the ordeal by licking condensation from the shipping crate's sides.

After being rescued, Miss Pickford stayed at the Bayton Lodge Quarantine Kennels and Cattery in Warwickshire. The cat's stay was paid for by Pickfords. Bayton Lodge Quarantine Kennels and Cattery proprietors Lorraine and Dale Grove couldn't believe that the cat made it through the long trip. Lorraine described, "When she arrived with us she was in a very bad condition...She was extremely thin, very dehydrated and her fur was dry like straw."

Miss Pickford recovered completely and was given needed medical aid. The cat now resides at Cats Protection's Birmingham Adoption Centre until she finds a forever home. The Centre can be reached at: 01564 822 020 if you are interested in adopting the international cat.
