Turkish politician: Cyprus is Turkish
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
Maral Aksener, head of the far right IYI (Good Party) spoke of a new offensive by the Turkish army in Cyprus, insinuating that the island nation is Turkish.
She complained of "imperialist" activities at the expense of Turkey in the Mediterranean for the exploitation of hydrocarbon deposits, at the time when the Turkish research ship Barbaros is sailing to Lot 4 of the Exclusive Economic Zone of the Republic of Cyprus.
"Ayse will go on holiday again," she added sharply, using the famous signal given to launch the 1974 invasion. She even pointed out that Cyprus is and will remain Turkish.
The Akseneer position largely reflects the strongly nationalist tone prevailing in the Turkish right. It is noted, however, that President Recep Tayyip Erdogan did not refer to Cyprus in his speech before AKP ruling party MPs, yesterday.
