Kyriakos Mitsotakis is traveling to Budapest to participate in the European Political Community Summit and the informal European Council (November 7 and 8).

Security challenges, migration and economic security are the issues that will dominate the agenda of the European Political Community.

Trump's election and European competitiveness at the center of the discussions
However, what is expected to dominate the leaders' discussions is the result of the American elections, as it is the first time they will have the opportunity to exchange views, 24 hours after Donald Trump's victory. This discussion is also expected to dominate the dinner of the 27 tonight, as European leaders will seek common ground.

Tomorrow, at the informal European Council meeting - in the presence of Christine Lagarde and Mario Draghi - the topic of discussion on the agenda is European competitiveness on the occasion of the Draghi report.

It is the first time that European leaders will discuss in detail Mr. Draghi's report and will seek to reach a common text on the priorities of European competitiveness (Budapest Declaration).

What will Kyriakos Mitsotakis focus on in his speech
The Prime Minister, who has already spoken about a very important text, is expected to emphasize the importance of joint European financing of goods of common European interest, such as energy and defense, while underlining that the debate on competitiveness is de facto linked to the election result in the US and Euro-Atlantic relations.

On energy, Kyriakos Mitsotakis is expected to highlight the need to reform energy markets and promote electricity interconnections - something that Mr Draghi stresses in his report. This dimension was also highlighted in his letter to the President of the Commission on fluctuations in electricity prices as a distortion of the single market, the Prime Minister said.

At the same time, Kyriakos Mitsotakis will stress that Europe's ambitions in areas such as defence should not be at the expense of other budgetary priorities, such as Cohesion funds. In fact, on the occasion of the deadly floods in Spain, Kyriakos Mitsotakis will reiterate the need for Europe to do more in the field of adaptation to climate change.
