The aircraft carrying Defense Minister Nikos Dendias to Cyprus, as well as aircraft of the French mission, were subjected to radio interference from the control tower of the airport in the occupied territories.

Information indicates that there was interference in the aircraft's communication from the so-called control tower of the illegal Tymbou airport.

According to the same information, two F-16s took off from Tymbou. The two Turkish fighter jets were monitoring the state aircraft of European ministers from a distance, which were heading to Cyprus.

European Defence Ministers are in Cyprus ahead of the informal Foreign Affairs (Defence) Council to be hosted in Nicosia on Monday, in the context of the Cyprus Presidency of the European Union.

Over a scheduled working lunch, Defence Ministers are expected to exchange views on the defence dimensions of the Security Strategy under preparation, focusing mainly on promoting the defence preparedness of the European Union, the EU’s contribution to in strengthening the European pillar of NATO, in improving the effectiveness of decision-making mechanisms and in the operational implementation of Article 42 (7) of the TEU (mutual assistance clause).
