Venizelos Calls for Ukrainian Tension & Violence Reduction
Today, the EU Foreign Affairs Council conducted a meeting in Brussels, concerning the de-escalation of tension and violence in Ukraine.
Greek governmental Vice President and Foreign Minister Evangelos Venizelos declared that the plan should be protected and as reported by ANA, "...the first thing we need to do is to clarify the official Russian stance on the so-called referenda that were held yesterday".
Venizelos stressed that the referenda should not have legal recognition and commented that that: "a high abstention rate will create a problem of legitimization and recycle the tension". He urged for Russian President Vladimir Putin to implement a statement that troops must be withdrawn from the border.
The Greek governmental head declared, "On the other hand, the government in Kiev needs to ensure that there is no form of aggressive violence from the armed forces and, even more so, that collateral mechanisms are not used. Moreover, at the soonest possible time, an inclusive dialogue must be initiated with all of the social, political, ethnic and linguistic groups, and with all the regions, on a constitutional solution that ensures sovereignty, integrity and the participation of everyone".
