Turkish Cypriot Leader Eroglu Denounces ECHR's Ruling

Eroglu claimed, "...such a decision during such a period overshadowed the negotiations...this is an action aimed at strengthening the Greek Cypriots". He warned that if an international agreement is going to occur regarding the Cypriot divide, the global arena should be careful in its legalities. Eroglu referred to two "equal peoples" that live on the island, while the North has been struggling on its own terms to live peacefully for years, as reported by Parikiaki.

Additionally, the illegal Bayrak TV station offered a statement, regarding the ECHR's ruling, "...lacking any legal basis, of contradicting with the principles of justice, of being politically motivated and of choosing to ignore those really responsible for the tragedy in Cyprus and punishing the innocent".

The declaration referenced the law's timetable, and claimed that it significantly coincides with new discussions undertaken by both sides. It read: "Such an unfair decision which serves to give one of the two parties a political and psychological advantage over the other one is truly thought-provoking".

The statement also blamed the Republic of Cyprus of taking advantage of the ECHR for its own political advancements. It stated: "The ECHR has once again ignored the suffering of the Turkish Cypriots. Turkey on the other hand is being punished for saving the Turkish Cypriot people from atrocities and being massacred. This is the ECHR's justice and history will judge this decision".
