Kuwait Offers Cypriot Committee on Missing Persons 200,000 Euros
Today, Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades accepted a Kuwaiti monetary donation of 200,000 euros, to be used by the Committee on Missing Persons.
Ambassador of Kuwait Ahmad Salem Ahmad Al-Wehaib offered the financial gift at a Presidential Palace ceremony. As reported by Parikiaki, President Anastasiades was extremely grateful for the contribute by the government of Kuwait and the Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmed al-Jaber al-Sabah.
Kuwait confirmed the disbursement last October, when the Cypriot President visited the nation. Anastasiades stated that the offering is: "a reflection of the historically excellent relations between our two countries but also of the common suffering of our people". He discussed how both countries have been victimized by invasions and have missing citizens.
The Emir of Kuwait is expected to visit Cyprus to increase bilateral relations. The Kuwaiti Ambassador documented in an official announcement, that the financial gift's goal is to assist in identifying and returning the missing to their relatives.
Government Spokesman Nicos Christodoulides offered his extreme appreciation to Kuwait and declared that the worst element of Turkey's 1974 illegal invasion and current northern occupation, is the missing Greek Cypriots.
