Cypriot Foreign Ministry Denounces Northern Territory's Religious Stance

  • Written by

The Cypriot Foreign Ministry denounced the Northern territory's refusal to allow Greek Orthodox services in the four churches in the region.

According to an official Ministry announcement, "This constitutes a violation of the fundamental human right to freedom of religion, which is protected, among others, by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights", as reported by Parikiaki.

The Foreign Ministry claimed that the Greek Orthodox churches Prophet Elias, Agia Marina, Agia Paraskevi and another Agia Marina can not conduct religious ceremonies. Kythrea's Agios Antonios' rite was recently disrupted during a service. The Ministry believes that these acts do not support current Cypriot solution discussions or allow for friendly surroundings.
