Missing American Class Ring Found on Naxos

  • Written by

Forty-two years after a Staten Island couple lost a ring, it was returned half-way across the world from Naxos, according to global reports.

CBS 2 reporter Jessica Schneider covered the story, where Stan Ostapiak gave his gold class ring to his girlfriend Elaine in 1970. He explained, "Just as a token of love, I guess, you know, I gave her my ring". On the couple's wedding night, the ring was stolen from a keychain inside the newlywed's purse.

Just a few weeks ago, the pair received a phone call claiming that a Greek young man found the ring that his father had, after his death. The father found the ring in 1980 on a Naxos beach. It was returned to the Ostapiaks with a letter that said: "I hope this ring brings you joy and happiness and maybe some old memories".

A impressive background story showcases the ring's return. The locator of the ring in Greece contacted the class ring's Seward Park High School and later the Alumni Association President. The President studied the 1962 High School yearbook to locate the name and photo of the initials inside the ring, leading to its return.
