Cyprus Requests Halloumi PDO ASAP
Cypriot Minister of Agriculture, Natural Resources and the Environment Nicos Kouyialis, has requested that the EU analyze the nation's halloumi cheese Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) application as soon as possible.
As reported by Parikiaki, the Minister met with EU Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development Dacian Ciolos earlier this week and held a very beneficial meeting. The two discussed Cyprus' request to commercially preserve the halloumi/hellum traditional cheese with a PDO.
Kouyialis informed the EU Commissioner on the significance of securing the cheese in a rapid manner, that will assist the nation's livestock and agricultural sectors, leading to an improvement in Cyprus' economy.
