FM Gerapetritis: Greece will ratify Prespa Agreement when North Macedonia fully complies with its int'l commitments

Foreign Affairs Minister George Gerapetritis, speaking with journalists on Wednesday, said that the Greek government "reacted very fast and with the right reflexes," after the new president of North Macedonia, Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova, referred to her country as "Macedonia" - instead of the constitutional name "North Macedonia" - during her swearing-in ceremony in the parliament, departing from the official text of the oath.

Turkish crime kingpin arrested in Athens

Greek authorities have arrested one of Turkey’s most wanted criminals, Ramazan Baygara.

The arrest took place in the Ambelokipi district of Athens on Friday, May 10, authorities help.

Baygara, who had been on the run, is accused of heading an organized crime group with its roots in Adana, Turkey. His criminal activities spanned drug trafficking, arms dealing, and other illicit enterprises.

 

The arrest came after Turkish authorities issued 14 warrants for his arrest, including charges related to premeditated homicide.

State Department on Mitsotakis-Erdogan meeting: We encourage the resolution of disputes in accordance with International Law

The United States encourages the maintenance of calmness in the Aegean and the resolution of disputes in accordance with International Law, the State Department noted after the conclusion of the meeting between Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Turkiye's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara.
Responding to a question from the Athens-Macedonian News Agency, a State Department spokesman noted that the US presence in the Aegean combined with the cooperation of the US with Athens and Ankara strengthens NATO and helps to counter Russian aggression.
