Seeking to curb an "epidemic" of phone scams, Greece is set to reclassify the defrauding of elderly citizens as a felony offense, Citizen Protection Minister Michalis Chrysochoidis announced.

Justice Minister Michalis Kalogirou on Thursday clarified that rape remains a felony under legislation passed by parliament on Thursday and that lawmakers have finalised its definition in paragraph 5 of Article 336, which says that "anyone attempting a sexual act without the consent of the victim is punished with up to 10 years imprisonment." 

A 36-year-old man arrested by police after the attack by anarchist group Rouvikonas against the building of the Greek Parliament on Tuesday has been indicted on criminal charges.
