The Legal Affairs Committee of the European Parliament, which met earlier this morning (Tuesday 5/30), said yes to the lifting of the immunity of Alexis Georgoulis.

The case of the now independent SYRIZA MEP Alexis Georgoulis, who is accused of rape and physical abuse, continues to cause turmoil in Athens and Brussels.

The two Brussels-based defense attorneys hired by Greek MEP Alexis Georgoulis, who’s at the center of an investigation on alleged sexual assault and battery charges, on Thursday said the latter was only informed earlier this month of a request by Belgian authorities to lift his parliamentary immunity.
