Greece is building a "coalition of legitimacy" with energy projects as a lever aiming to turn the southeastern Mediterranean into a zone of cooperation, Environment and Energy Minister Kostis Hatzidakis said in an interview with SKAI radio on Tuesday.

The importance of Greece and Cyprus' role in the new US strategy for the southeastern Mediterranean was highlighted in a debate organised by the American-Hellenic Institute (AHI) in Washington on "the importance of pillars of stability in a sea of instability".

The Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlout Cavusoglu expressed his gratitude to the Greek Foreign Minister George Katrougalos for saying that Turkey should not be excluded from hydrocarbon exploitation in the south-eastern Mediterranean.
