Mytilineos: New contract for sale from energy storage system in Italy

Specifically, the company was awarded a capacity market contract lasting 15 years and priced at 70,000 euros / MW / year for a project located in Brindisi, southern Italy. The Brindisi project is a 25 MW battery energy storage (BESS) system that uses lithium-ion batteries, providing approximately 50 MWh to the grid. The project has been developed and designed by Mytilineos RSD Division and its construction is scheduled for 2023.

These results strongly confirm the strategic position of Mytilineos in the Italian energy market, as, already in 2021, the RSD Sector has undertaken 2 Projects (25MW and 6 MW) during the Auction Terna Fast reserve 2021. The construction of the projects will start in second quarter of 2022, and their start-up is expected to take place in the fourth quarter of 2022, when they will start providing Fast Reserve services to the Italian network from 2023 to 2027.

In terms of design, procurement and construction (EPC) where Mytilineos is considered one of the world's leading contractors, the RSD Division has signed 2 new completed BESS contracts with Gresham House's long-term partner in the UK.

The projects - Abroath and Coupar located in Scotland - have a total power output of 75 MW with 75 MWh of energy storage, using lithium ion batteries. The execution of the projects has already progressed and their start of operation is expected in the coming weeks.

BESS systems support the increased penetration of renewable energy sources into the UK energy mix by providing ancillary services necessary to ensure network reliability and stability. At the same time, they have the ability to store energy during periods of low demand, while when demand is high, they can release it back into the grid, thus improving investment income.

RSD Division has successfully manufactured and commissioned 383MW (420MWh) in the United Kingdom, being one of the leading solution providers for large-scale battery storage systems in Europe.

Mytilineos RSD Sector is currently developing 380 MW BESS in Italy, Spain and Australia and the goal is to further expand the range of 600 MW within the third quarter of 2022. In addition, in Greece, Mytilineos has agreed to acquire 25 development of electricity storage projects.
