Antenna Group has reached an agreement to acquire GEDI, Italy's leading media and entertainment organization, from EXOR, owned by the Agnelli family.

Among other things, Antenna Group will acquire the historic newspaper La Repubblica, 15 websites, 3 radio stations, an advertising company and a television streaming platform.

Specifically, the deal includes, in addition to La Repubblica, the radio stations Radio Deejay, Radio Capital and m2o, the media outlets HuffPost Italia, National Geographic and Limes, and the advertising agency Manzoni.

According to the announcement by Antenna Group, the agreement is another strategic move by Antenna, which continues to expand its international footprint in Europe and the United States of America, investing in established media with great growth prospects.

“GEDI’s integration into the Antenna Group leads to the creation of an information and entertainment organization with a global reach and enormous growth prospects internationally. The leading investment move is a strategic choice of Thodoris Kyriakou and is part of an organized and coherent plan, aiming to make the Antenna Group an international protagonist,” it is stated characteristically.

Utilizing its extensive experience in media, information and entertainment, Antenna will expand GEDI’s activity, establishing it as a strong, international Group that promotes independent journalism. At the same time, it will proceed with new investments for the development of La Repubblica, expanding its presence in new markets and highlighting the award-winning journalistic work of its editors.

The development of GEDI’s radio stations has an important place in Antenna’s strategy. In combination with its own successful radio stations in Europe, it aims to create a dynamic radio hub for the Mediterranean Region. In addition, it will develop documentary production, streaming platforms, podcasts, music production and distribution, education and cinema – sectors in which Antenna has vast experience and a track record of successful investments.

Antenna Group, supporting authoritative information, will integrate new technologies and innovative practices into GEDI’s journalistic organization, in order to create new opportunities for Italian journalists, who will gain access to an audience of 500 million through its network and strategic partnerships. Accordingly, it will strengthen GEDI’s existing partnerships in Italy, with Huffington Post, National Geographic and other international media. Antenna is already in discussions with its strategic partners in the United States of America to integrate new news and entertainment brands into GEDI’s portfolio.

The prospects created through this acquisition are very large. Antenna will develop GEDI's digital platform mymovies.it, connecting it to its own streaming platforms, and will expand its activity in cinema and in Italy, leveraging its successful course in this sector as well. Through GEDI's portfolio and the high impact of its radio stations, it will also strengthen its activity in music production and distribution. Finally, through its partnerships with leading international content providers, such as Netflix, it will expand the distribution of GEDI's documentaries on a global scale.

With the acquisition of GEDI, Antenna Group significantly expands its international and European activity. Through a 38-year journey of successful and continuous investments, today it is one of the largest media and entertainment groups in the world, with 37 free and pay television channels, two streaming platforms, as well as a broad portfolio of activities in Europe, North America and Australia.
