Hollywood comes to Greece - Filming with Brad Pitt about to begin

The schedule is tight as filming begins day by day and the cameras should be rolling and dozens of crews have already been mobilized.

A year after the major production for director Christopher Nolan's "Odyssey", Greece is returning with claims to the map of major international productions.

According to reliable information, other international projects are also included for the coming months. In fact, the interest is not limited to the USA and Europe, as production companies from India and China have made their first contacts on Greek soil.

Behind this international mobility, a conscious shift in strategy is evolving. The Hellenic Center for Cinema, Audiovisual Media and Creation (EKKOMED), following a mandate from the Council of Ministers, has drawn up a five-year plan for the audiovisual sector with the aim of moving the sector away from the logic of annual fragmented decisions and towards predictability, continuity and depth.

The aim is to create a framework that will allow productions, both domestic and foreign, to plan over time.

According to a recent study on the economic impact of the incentive program, the activity of recent years has yielded almost 1 billion euros to the Greek economy, with every 1 euro of public support returning approximately 4.2 euros in added value, employment and secondary effects.

In 2025, according to EKKOMED, ​​120 million euros were channeled into payments to domestic and foreign productions, levels that are expected to be maintained in 2026.

“Now we are no longer talking about debts, but about a normal flow of financing,” notes CEO Leonidas Christopoulos, speaking to Greek media, explaining that the audiovisual sector is treated as a productive sector, with long-term planning, a stable flow of capital and a multiplier impact on the economy.

Five-year plan

At the core of EKKOMED’s new strategy lies the predictability of financial tools. For domestic and international productions, the crucial thing is not only the amount of support, but the certainty that the system will operate smoothly.

“If you don’t know that the tool will still exist after three years, you can’t make a serious plan,” notes Mr. Christopoulos.
