Art Expertise organized yesterday in Paris, for Bonhams, the 48th Greek Sale auction with a tribute to Greek art of the last two centuries.
An exceptional collection of 165 works was assembled and following the successive successes of the recent Greek Sales, the recent auction in Paris was the top one of the last 15 years.
The most expensive Greek work of the 20th century
The total turnover was €4,400,000 and the crowning glory of the auction was “Poetry” by Konstantinos Parthenis which, exceeding €1,250,000, emerged as the most expensive Greek work of the 20th century.
The crowning achievement of the auction was “Poetry” by Konstantinos Parthenis, which, exceeding 1,250,000 euros, became the most expensive Greek work of the 20th century.
The top five were completed by “Full Moon” and “Spring” by Yannis Moralis, which, doubling their initial estimates, reached €508,400 and €305,200 respectively.
“Terrace in Tinos” by Nikolaos Lytras reached €229,000, setting a new record for the artist, and “Stream II” by Nikos Hadjikyriakos Ghikas reached €165,500.
As ART EXPERTISE director Terpsichore Angelopoulou pointed out, “It was a historic auction with the great record of Parthenis, the great prices that Moralis achieved, the new artist record for Nikolaos Lytras, but also the total turnover that exceeded 4.3 million. This shows the momentum that Greek art has, which is based on quality and its timeless value. We want to thank our established and younger collectors who contribute to the flourishing of the Greek art market.
