Holy Synod of the Church of Greece Supports Antiracism Bill
The Holy Synod of the Church of Greece released a statement, regarding its commitment to the much debated antiracism bill.
The bill calls for harsher consequences on racist acts and attacks, which is scheduled to be tabled next week in Parliament. The Holy Synod of the Church of Greece believes that the bill will support, "the effort to safeguard social peace for all... irrespective of sex, color, religion".
The Greek Orthodox body called for one more provision to be added, that would abolish the dismissal of the Asia Minor Christian genocide, that occurred from 1908 to 1922. The anti-racism bill has been regularly deferred and rewritten, and still holds resistance by 38 New Democracy MPs.
