Marathon has gone bankrupt

“Unfortunately we have gone bankrupt, like Trikoupis said. The party that went on for 16 years is over and I'm stuck with the bill,” noted Marathon mayor, Ilias Psinakis to To Vima newspaper.
The mayor of Marathon stated that for all that time there was an organized plan to disassemble all of municipal services that resulted in the municipality's bankruptcy.
Answering a question as to what would happen to municipal employees, as bankruptcy also means a freeze in payments, he said: “I'm not going to leave them like that. I have an alternative solution, there is a plan B.” He did not, however, go into details. However, he refused any recourse to loans.
