Turks provoke dogfights as minister heads to Psara

It seems that tension over the Aegean is rising dangerously with Turkey continuing its provocative tactics.

A new “warm” incident occurred with Turkish F-16s engaging in dogfights with Greek fighters, while the Minister of National Defence was travelling from Chios to Psara to visit the military outpost on the island.
The beginning of the episode
took place the airspace above Psara and ended with the intervention of Greek F-16s in the area of Mykonos. The Turkish side argues that their F-16s took off to monitor what they believed was an airborne radar system, but in reality it was a Civil Aviation Authority aircraft, which calibrates the proper functioning of navigational aids on the islands.
At the same time, the Greek pilots informed
flight control that they were threatened by dangerous maneuvers of the Turkish fighter and immediately Greek F-16s rushed to the spot, which after mock dogfights intercepted the Turkish jets.
Indeed,
tactical Air Force commander Lieutenant General Christos Vaitsis communicated on the "red line" with his Turkish counterpart and the latter, having argued that it was a mistake and that a Turkish pilot will be led to disciplinary proceedings, apologized for the incident, demonstrating, howver, that the climate over the Aegean remains “hot.”
