The acclaimed author Menis Koumandareas who was found dead in his apartment in the early hours of Saturday morning was strangled to death according to the coroner’s report following an autopsy. His murderer did not use gloves.
Prior to his murder the author had been beaten around the head, face and stomach. According to investigators, the mode of killing points to a ‘personal motive’ behind the violent crime.
Police are now attempting to piece together Koumandareas’s last moments on Friday night.
In particular they are searching for the individual with whom Koumandareas is said to have had an appointment around the time that he died.
Prior to his murder, Koumandareas spent the evening with Thanos Foskarinis, an author and longterm friend and collaborator who was helping Koumandareas assemble his archive.
