Suit tendered against owner and captain of Norman Atlantic

A lawsuit against the owner Carlo Vinzentini and the captain of "Norman Atlantic", Artzilio Giaccomatsi was brought by the Italian courts for the following charges: negligent multiple manslaughter, negligent shipwreck and causing wounds through negligence.

Meanwhile, two Greeks lost their lives according to an official statement from the merchant marine ministry.

According to the latest figures from the Italian authorities, there were 475 people aboard the vessel "Norman Atlantic". Of these, 425 were rescued, ten were found dead, while forty are missing, of which 32 are Greek nationals.

Indeed, according to preliminary information broadcast by RAI, the passenger list of Norman Atlantic is allegedly inaccurate, or even fake. The information is still contradictory about the number of people aboard the ship. For this reason, the Chief of the Coast Guard ordered a senior officer of HCG to Italy in order to have a comparison of all the data. In parallel, the Greek Coast Guard has already prepared two trained groups, upon request from the Italian government, to assist in the work of investigation of spaces of the ship to explore for possible missing persons.

Yesterday, a spokesman for the charterer company, which was called to the ministry in order to update the list of occupants reported that there were 475 passengers and crew aboard the "Norman Atlantic".

Anek, with an official announcement, said three people allegedly on the passenger list of the "Norman Atlantic", ultimately did not travel while a person who was not recorded, was found that he was traveling on board. Additionally, a crew member had not boarded the ship. Therefore according to the above data, the number of occupants on departure amounted to 475 people, of which 55 persons were crew, who, according to a spokesman of the company are all in good health.

The Norman Atlantic on Tuesday morning was near an islet, 1.5 nautical miles from the port of Vlore in Albania. Near it are four tugs with ropes to keep it from falling on the rocks.

An expert group will board the ship to check the condition of the ship, in order to begin towing the process.
