A 33-year-old Algerian national, who was rounded up by police on Saturday at the Athens district of Pangrati following a request by the Belgium authorities, was arrested by the counter-terrorism squad on Sunday evening being accused of terrorism activity in Belgium.
The 33-year-old was arrested on an international warrant issued by the Belgium authorities that had initially notified the Greek police that the man was not related to the investigation into a group of jihadists which was dismantled following a bloody operation in Belgium. However, they later considered that Belgium investigators dealing with the case should also question the Algerian national.
The suspect will be sent on Monday to the prosecutor after a request for his extradition to Belgium.
