Greek scientist gets Maurice Wilkes Award

Christoforos (Christos) Kozirakis is the Greek computer engineer, who was awarded with the ACM SIGARCH Maurice Wilkes Award for 2015.

The award was presented to Christos Kozirakis at the International Symposium on Computer Architecture Awards Banquet.

The award of $2,500 is given annually for an outstanding contribution to computer architecture made by an individual whose computer-related professional career (graduate school or full-time employment, whichever began first) started no earlier than January 1st of the year that is 20 years prior to the year of the award.

Sir Maurice Vincent Wilkes FRS, FREng, DFBCS (26 June 1913 – 29 November 2010) was a British computer scientist credited with several important developments in computing. At the time of his death, Wilkes was an Emeritus Professor of the University of Cambridge.

The Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) is an international societ of scholars for computing. It was founded in 1947 and is the world’s largest scientific and educational computing society. It is a not-for-profit professional membership group. Its membership comprises more than 100,000 as of 2011. Its headquarters are in New York City.

The ACM and the IEEE Computer Society are the umbrella organizations for US academic and scholarly interests in computing. Unlike the IEEE, the ACM is solely dedicated to computing.
