Judiciary Seeks Immunity Lifting for Minister

A request for lifting parliamentary immunity from merchant marine minister Militiadis Varvitsiotis was tendered to parliament by supreme court prosecution.
The case involves charges for felonious abuse of authority white the minister was municipal counselor for the municipality of Glyfada (a seaside suburb of Athens) between 2011-2012.
Twenty seven members of the municipal council will also stand trial for the case of the purchase of two pieces of real estate by the municipality that is thought to have damaged municipal coffers to the tune of 2.8 million euros.
