Tax evasion is king on Greek islands
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
Tax officials have recorded widespread tax evasion in hotels, restaurants and bars in the Aegean and Ionian islands after conducting spot checks.
63 inspections carried out over the last days just in Heraklion, Crete, showed 33 violations by 39 offenders.
Meanwhile, tax inspectors have landed on the major islands of the Cyclades looking for tax evaders, and has found a new trick used by tax evaders: undeclared cash registers that print legal looking receipts that are actually worthless.
The new Alternate Finance Minister Tryfon Alexiadis has already prepared a ministerial decision that outlines the procedures to be followed during inspections throughout the summer aiming at combating tax evasion.
