Zoe Konstantopoulou's political moves

Greek Parliament President Zoe Konstantopouolou is in the final stages of creating a new political party, according to media.

The party will reportedly collaborate with the recently formed anti-memorandum formation ‘Popular Unity’ set up by former SYRIZA Minister and MP Panayiotis Lafazanis.

As newspaper ‘I Efimnerida ton Syntakton’ (Newspaper of the Reporters) notes, Konstantopoulou will not enter into a partnership with Lafazanis’s ‘Popular Unity’ party because she does not want to play second fiddle to Lafazanis, while she believes that an alliance is more likely to attract smaller anti-memorandum political groups to their political bloc, forming a movement with many tendencies, like SYRIZA was, originally.

According to sources, she is considering approaching historical left cadre Manolis Glezos to join her party. In a letter sent to Glezos, Konstantopoulou underlines that ‘in the paths of hope we have tread prove that there are no impasses in democracy, as long as the people are active and their existing representatives are determined not to betray them’.
