Migrants vacate Lesvos
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
A total of 29,260 migrants and refugees have left from Lesvos island since Monday. According to the planning, the camp of Kara Tepe, where tents were set up by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, will be used for Syrian refugees, who will be identified at the former road safety park and will stay in the camp.
Former Alternate Shipping Minister Christos Zois arrived to Lesvos on Friday. Caretaker Prime Minister Vassiliki Thanou will visit Lesvos on Sunday, September 13. "The presence of the Prime Minister marks the culmination of her concern all that period. Her help was significant and I do not know how we would be without her," the mayor of Lesvos Spyros Galenos said to ANA-MPA. Meanwhile, Greece's scouts in cooperation with Médecins du Monde will collect and transfer drugs to the islands that receive the bulk of refugees and migrants. Caretaker Alternate Tourism Minister and singer Alkistis Protopsalti announced that she will donate the revenues from three of her concerts to the Northern Aegean Region to address the immediate needs of the increasing flow of migrants and refugees to the islands and in particular Lesvos. "The everyday images have shocked me. This is the least I could do," she noted.
