Palestinian ambassador: Greece can play the role of the mediator promoting peace process

The head of the diplomatic representation of the Palestinian Authority in Athens Marwan Toubassi welcomed the Greek government's actions that confirm the historic relations between Greece and Palestine and stated that "after a series of meetings held in the last days with Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras' office, the Greek Foreign Ministry and political parties, they all confirmed their stable position on the establishment of Palestinian State with capital East Jerusalem."

The Palestinian ambassador referred to an announcement issued by the Greek Foreign Ministry which "confirms the stable historic bonds between the Greek and the Palestinian people underlining Greece's adamant position for the need of the establishment of a sovereign Palestinian State on the borders of 1967 with capital Eastern Jerusalem based on the principle of the solution of two states that will co-exist peacefully with Israel."
Ambassador Toubassi also added that "the preparations with the Greek authorities for the reception of the President of Palestine Mahmoud Abbas that will pay an official visit to Athens at the end of the month have started. Abbas will meet with Greek President of Republic Prokopis Pavlopoulos, Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, Archbishop of Athens and All Greece Ieronymos and representatives of the Greek political parties."
President Abbas is also expected to visit the Greek Parliament where a draft resolution for the recognition of the Palestinian State is being prepared, concluded Toubassi.
