"All the Greeks governed by the ideals of Democracy must now, more than ever, put aside whatever differences and hold a united front of common responsibility in order to successfully confront the great challenges of our times and ensure a better future for Greece and the later generations of the Greeks, to which we must pass down a future of hope and creativity, and not our own mistakes," Greek President Prokopis Pavlopoulos on Thursday said in his message for March 25 national holiday.
Pavlopoulos underlined that the example of our ancestors who fought in 1821 should inspire us and guide us in perpetuity and especially during the current critical times for our country.
Apart from the great economic and social problems, Greece is also facing the consequences of an unprecedented refugee flow, because of its geographical position in the EU's external borders.
Referring to the refugee issue, he stated that it will be resolved effectively only if the war in Syria ends once and for all.
