TrainOSE to Issue ‘Smart’ Ticket
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
Greek rail service company TrainOSE announced during the 81st Thessaloniki Trade Fair this weekend that it would soon be launching so-called smart tickets for travel on its network.
The smart tickets will have multiple safeguards and be issued immediately.
TrainOSE offers railway passenger transportation through suburban, intercity and international services.
The company also said that passengers will soon be able to purchase tickets with credit/debit card via POS terminals and presented plans to establish a TrainOSE loyalty club for customers through which they will be entitled to discounts and participation in the company’s “miles & bonus” program.
TrainOSE — services of which include the Athens Suburban Railway that connects Attica, the surrounding regions and the main cities to Athens, the airport and Piraeus port — is also upgrading customer services including revamping its food stalls, providing improved mobile services as well as offering vehicle transport between Athens and Thessaloniki.
Company representatives also presented the Intercity 6+1 card for multiple journeys, the company’s senior citizens, student, group and family deals, as well as the children’s discount program.
Meanwhile, at TrainOSE’s Thessaloniki Trade Fair kiosk, the famed “Moutzouris” steam engine, which connected the villages of Mt Pelion with the port of Volos, is on display. The rail line was constructed in 1892 and started operations in 1903.
