Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias stressed the need for respect to the US election result in the extraordinary meeting of the 28 EU foreign ministers late on Sunday in Brussels.
The ministers referred to the changes that the election of the new President can bring in Euro-Atlantic relations and issues concerning Europe such as the implementation of Iran and climate change agreements. Kotzias underlined that respect should be shown regardless of the election result stressing the importance of making Europe's decision understood and continue the US-EU cooperation. "It must be made understood, the Greek Foreign Minister said, "that the election of Donald Trump was not a coincidence, but a result of major structural problems the US faced and that Europe will or is already facing."
