A man identified by police on Tuesday was charged with burning the Greek flag during a football match between Greece and Bosnia-Herzegovina last Sunday at a World Cup qualifying match, while the individual who held a banner with a fascist slogan remains unknown, a police source clarified to the press.
Speaking to media, the police source said the file will be sent to the prosecutor as authorities continue the search for the man or individuals who held the banner with the slogan "Noz, zica, Srebrenica" ("Knife, wire, Srebrenica”). The slogan referred to the killing of thousands of Bosnian Muslims by ethnic Serb forces in Srebrenica in 1995.
On Monday, Deputy Sports Minister Giorgos Vasiliadis sent a letter to the head of Greek police requesting the identification and arrest of those involved.
