Moscovici in Athens for two day visit

EU Commissioner for Economic Affairs, Pierre Moskovisi is on a two-day visit to Greece.

At 15:00 will be received by the President Pr. Pavlopoulos at the Presidential Palace.

17:00 Mr. Moskovisi will meet with Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, at 18:15 with Finance Minister  Tsakalotos and then with Economy and Development Minister D. Papadimitriou.

"Greece is ready to turn the page"

"The Greeks have made so many sacrifices over the years and finally the country is ready to turn the page. The "success story" that we write together, means a return to normality, but a new normality with a sustainable public finance policy and a competitive economy capable of creating jobs that Greeks need," Pierre Moskovisi said in an interview with the newspaper Ethnos of Sunday .

Asked whether it is time to discuss debt relief, he stressed that "in accordance with the conclusions of the first evaluation and the good progress achieved in the second, I believe that the conditions are right for the discussions to take place in next Eurogroup," and added, " the May agreement defines a clear sequence of steps-with three packages of measures, short, medium and long term that remains to be agreed. Further discussions on the debt will play an important role on the eve of IMF programs, as agreed in May. "

Mr. Moskovisi declared that it is "perfectly possible" to close the deal in terms of the personnel agreement in the coming days. Based on this agreement, as mentioned by Mr. Moskovisi, the Greek authorities should implement the agreed upon necessary steps for the completion of the second evaluation. "This, however, requires the full cooperation and participation of all stakeholders," Moxcovici said.

Referring to the "thorny issue" of changes in the labor market, Mr. Moskovisi stressed that there is still some work to be done. He noted, however, that progress has been recorded from the ranks of technical missions.
