The odds and ends of parliamentary ways and means statements

Apart from the ways and means statements of political party leaders, there is also interest in taking a glance at a few other “interesting” statements among them those of former PMs and some of the deputies.

Former PM Giorgos Papandreou stated 102,000 as parliamentary remuneration and a little over 4,000 euros was stated as his wife's, Ms Haido Papapanou, income. Yet, Mr Papandreou shows an increase of almost 200,000 euros in deposits.

Another former PM, Kostas Karamanlis declared 80,500 euros from parliamentary remuneration and 147,000 euros from other sources. The former PM also shows 19 properties, two cars, and a boat. It's interesting to note that Mr Karamanlis had Greek state bonds worth a total of 300,261 euros in 2010, which after the haircut were worth 139,761 euros.

Former PASOK PM Kostas Simitis shows income at 177,000 euros, and 14 properties, and 176,000 in bank accounts.

There also those among the deputies who are shockingly wealthy like ND deputy Georgia Martinou of the well known shipowning family (It was her brother that almost fell victim to kidnapping a few days ago) whose 156 properties use 9 pages just to list.

Notis Mitarakis, the current deputy development ministry shows the purchase of a 140 sq m apartment in London for a price close to 1.32 million euros. Otherwise, Mr Mitarakis shows a drop in income from around 370,000 in 2010 to 160,000 in 2011, and 53,144 euros in 2014.

SYRIZA deputy Dimitris Tsoukalas also appears wealthier by a million euros, which he sates came from his one off pension cash out when he retired from being president of the bank employee union OTOE. On the other end, is SYRIZA deputy Jenny Vamvaka that has claimed 0 revenues.

A number of Golden Dawn deputies showed 0 income in 2011, among them Ilias Kasidiaris, Ioannis Lagos, and Ilias Panagiotaros. Panagiotaros' statement is doubly surprising as he owns and maintains a retail outlet.
