Voting for suspension of VAT increase on islands hit by refugee crisis postponed
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
The voting of the amendment for not increasing the VAT on islands hit by the refugee crisis was postponed to next Wednesday following the request for a roll call vote submitted by the Democratic Coalition.
The amendment was included in the omnibus bill (bankruptcy law, electronic transactions, declaration of income) which was voted by majority.
Main opposition New Democracy voted against all amendments although there were settlements it would like to support because of the way it was legislated by the government.
New Democracy rapporteur Apostolis Vesyropoulos commented: "We are experiencing the ultimate humiliation of the legislative process", since 10 out of 15 amendments submitted to the omnibus bill were submitted with delay. However, he stated that ND will vote for the amendment to suspend the VAT increase on the islands.
