Greek Super League champion to be decided in play-offs from next season

The Greek Super League, the country’s professional football body, has decided to limit the competing teams from 16 to 14 from the next season by a narrow majority.
The body’s board members also decided to change the structure of the end of season play-offs, with the league’s champion also participating in the mini-championship at the end of the regular season. Until now the team that topped the ladder after the completion of the regular season was automatically declared champion, with the next 5 teams playing among each other to determine the remaining spots at the top of the table. The two last teams of the current season will be relegated to the second division competition called “Football League”, while the 13th and 14th teams will take part in play-outs with the 2nd and 3rd teams in the Football League and the winner will be earn a spot in the top league.
