Culture Ministry extends operating hours of museums and sites in Greece

The Culture Ministry on Tuesday announced the museums and archaeological sites in Greece that will operate with extended opening hours until October 31.
According to the announcement, the archaeological sites of the Acropolis in Athens, the Akrotiri of Thera on Santorini, the Minoan Palace of Zakros on Crete, the Archaeological Site of Pella and the Archaeological Museum of Chania on Crete are already open from 8 am until 8 pm. The Archaeological Site of Sounio is open from 8am until sundown and the Archaeological Site of Knossos is open from 8am until 7 pm.
As of April 5, museums and sites including the National Archaeological Museum, the Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki, the archaeological site and museum of the Royal Tombs at Aigai (Vergina) and Spinalonga will operate from 8 am until 8 pm.
All archaeological sites, monuments and museums will be closed on Easter Sunday (April 16), May 1 and other official public holidays. On Holy Friday (April 14) sites and museums will run from 12 am to 5 pm and on Holy Saturday from 8 am to 3 pm.
The announcement came after Culture Minister Lydia Koniordou recently informed that 1,314 employees would be hired in order to extend visiting hours at major sites across the country.
