Greek appliance cultivates vegetables inside your home

A small appliance, the size of a small dishwasher, grows vegetables and fruits of our choice, year round, in our kitchen or office.

It is called City Crop an original device that was invented and created by Greeks.

One of the creators, Christos Raptoyannis, stated that the thought aose from the need of most people to access safe food without pesticides.

"It has become a habit now to be able to cultivate your food, to know what the plant contains, because you know what you are cultivating."

The first fully automated indoor appliance enables users to grow fresh and healthy vegetables, herbs and fruits throughout the year (home, office, etc.) in conjunction with CityCrop's mobile application.

Specifically, as Mr. Raptoyannis explains, "the device has two floors (shelves). You can grow around 24 kinds of vegetables, 12 on the first shelf and 12 on the second.

The user can choose from a wide variety of vegetables, about 40 species (lettuce, spinach, rocket), herbs (basil, mint, oregano), micro-greens, small fruits (strawberries, even edible flowers (calendula, rose petals, etc.) ".

"We have chosen to have good partnerships with local producers who supply us with seeds and in general we try to find quality plants that are not easy to trade. In fact, one can produce 3 to 5 kilos a month with 60% less fertilizer and up to 98% less water consumption than a conventional crop," says Raptoyannis.

How does the device work? "It works very simply. With the help of the internet and the mobile app we provide with the device. So, you keep track of all your cultivation and how it evolves even through your cell phone," he says.

Once the device connects to the internet via wi-fi, the cultivation process starts in three simple steps:

1. The user, through the mobile app, selects the plants to cultivate and places them in the corresponding locations within the grid shown in the application.

2. Next, place the seeds on the corresponding positions of the discs inside the device.

3. Finally, it gives the order to start cultivation at the touch of a button!

City Crop undertakes watering, lighting, humidity, temperature and development conditions.

"We have provided the required information on what each plant needs separately and the device adapts the conditions on its own.

Wherever you are and have internet connection. Even when you leave a vacation you know what plants do at home, "adds Raptoyannis.

The Greek founding group is mainly targeting the international market and has already "opened its wings" in several markets abroad.

"We have orders from abroad from the United Kingdom, North Europe and the United States.

We are in operation since June 2015 and we are thinking of expanding.

Our plans are to create professional equipment for larger quantities of vegetables and fruits for restaurants and hotels. "

As Mr. Raptoyannis says, the most important is "our thoughts, to dare to implement them, since there are always opportunities."
