Tourism minister calls on Central Greece region to capitalize on its tourism potential

Speaking at the 2nd Central Greece Regional Conference this week, Kountoura presented key points of the ministry’s tourism policy and the positive results thus far, adding that the improved performance is in great part due to the close collaboration among regional, local and government bodies as well as of agencies, tour operators and private stakeholders. She stressed that the ministry is relying on the close cooperation of the country’s 13 regions in coordinating a unified tourism policy that will benefit all.

“We are here to set the priorities in tourism and tap into the development prospects of Central Greece, a region with great potential for growth aiming to achieve tourism 365 days a year,” Kountoura said.

Among the top priorities for the region are developing faith and cultural tourism centered around Delphi (photo) and other sites, enhancing winter tourism with Parnassos ski resort as a leading location, including Karpenisi, Arachova and other destinations, promoting marine, health & wellness tourism and linking all of the above with the promotion of local products and gastronomy.

On a final note, Kountoura referred to EU funds available for the above mentioned actions and reiterated the government’s support of small and medium-sized businesses.

“We support investments and projects that will bring added value to Central Greece, create new jobs and stimulate tourist activity with a focus on quality,” she concluded.
