Traffic accidents on the rise in Attica

Sixteen people were killed and 401 were injured of which 22 seriously - in 359 road accidents in the region of Attica in August, according to data from traffic police.
The main causes of the accidents were reckless driving, violation of priority and violation of traffic rules by pedestrians, and the non-use of helmets by motorcycle drivers and passengers which resulted in more severe injuries.
In the same month, Attica traffic police recorded 15,937 traffic law violations, including:
-1,655 speed limit violations
-1,317 violations for not using a helmet
-569 violations for mobile phone use
-432 cases of driving under the influence of alcohol
-295 violations of a red traffic light
-196 violations for not wearing seatbelt
