New hopes for Greek servicemen in Adrianople prison

The families of the two army officers held in Adrianoplehope now hope that the lifting of the state of emergency in Turkey can lead to the end of their anguish.
Tayyip Erdogan and MHP head Devete Bahceli agreed not to further extend the state of emergency imposed on Turkey after the coup d'état attempt in July 2016.
This development may also affect the fate of Angelos Mitrotodis and Dimitris Kouklatzis, who have been held for four months.
Nikos Mitretodis, the second lieutenant's father, told Real News that at first glance it is a positive development.
"The point is, however, that we do not know the Turkish legislation precisely and what rights have been abolished with the state of emergency. And since the law that is most lenient towards the accused always applies, at least in international law, we think it will certainly affect us," he added.
"We do not talk to the Turkish lawyers every day. We may have a better picture in the coming days. Then there is another question. They decided that the situation would be lifted, but it might take a long time before it is implemented. However, I think it is a favorable development, "he said.
Optimism, with caution, was also expressed by Costas Chrysogonos, Professor of Constitutional Law, and European Parliament deputy.
"Surely the landscape is improving through the lifting of the state of emergency in Turkey. However, no one can be sure what Ankara's next moves will be. It will be logical that either they will be accused or they will be released. Of course, the accusation may be very serious, for example, they can be charged with espionage," he told Real News.
