Powerful 5.1 earthquake hits Trikala in central Greece

A powerful 5.1 magnitude earthquake has shaken the city of Trikala in central Greece. The tremor occurred shortly after 10 am Friday.
According to local media, the focal depth and epicenter are believed to be on the borders of Trikala-Karditsa, near Neochori of Lake Plastira.
The earthquake was felt in almost all of Thessaly, areas across Epirus, Sterea Ellada and Macedonia.
There have been no reports of injuries or serious damage so far.
Speaking to Skai TV, professor of Dynamic Tectonic & Applied Geology of the National School of Geology and Geoenvironment at the National & Kapodistrian University of Athens and Chairman of the Earthquake Planning and Protection Organization and the Greek Geological Society, Efthymios Lekkas reassured that the situation was under control.
