Greek servicemen testify on their capture

Second Lieutenant Mitretoidis was questioned by the Army General Inspector only last Wednesday (29.08.2018) and Sergeant Kouklatzis the following day. As Real News reveals, it appears from the records that the two soldiers support the theory of error, which has led them a few feet within the Turkish territory.

Lieutenant Aggelos Mitretodis, in his testimony to the general inspector of the Hellenic Army, claims that along with Sergeant Kouklatzis they followed traces in the snow. He decided to follow them, believing that it was a trail of immigrants. Absorbed as he was, he suddenly heard "HALT!" He saw two Turkish soldiers taking aim on him and explaining why they did not back off on Greek territory he said: "I decided not to back down immediately because I did not know if sergeant Kouklatzis could follow me." The lieutenant is reportedly admitting in his testimony that he may have reacted wrongly.

The deposition of Sergeant Dimitris Kouklatzis wwas along the same line, supporting what lieutenant Mitretodis said.

With the testimonies of the two soldiers, the Sworn Administrative Examination procedure ordered by the General Staff of the National Defense (GNETH) was closed shortly after their capture.
